About the AU Continental Volunteer Linkage Platform:

Volunteerism has been receiving mounting policy attention in the AU system since the coming into effect of the African Youth Charter in 2006. The Charter requires that State Parties take measures that promote active youth participation in society. One of the measures that State Parties are required to take is instituting policy and programs of youth volunteerism at local, national, regional, and international levels as an important form of youth participation and as a means of peer-to-peer training.

Considering the multifaceted potential of the youth for Africa’s people-driven development, African Heads of State and Government in decision Assembly/AU/Dec. 274 (XVI) have recognized youth volunteerism as an instrument for youth empowerment and a catalyst for the continent’s development. Furthermore, the AUC put in place the AU Continental Volunteer Linkage Platform (CVLP) as a knowledge and information hub and coordination mechanism for volunteerism.

The Continental Volunteerism Linkage Platform is the one-stop gateway for volunteerism in Africa. The Platform aims to mobilize actors from across the continent engaged in volunteerism to maximize the benefits and potential of volunteerism and exchange programs in Africa. Since its official inception, the CVLP organized various events intended to promote dialogue among various actors of volunteerism.

Journalists are invited to cover the event.
