About

Purpose Health Care Africa (PHCA) is a dynamic and youth-founded organization established in 2018 with a dedicated focus on advancing health education and wellbeing among young people in Africa. PHCA was initially known as Advocacy for Behavior Change (ABCU), a company limited by guarantee, concentrating on behavior modification to promote disease prevention. Evolving from this foundation, PHCA has broadened its scope to encompass a range of initiatives, including youth dialogues, social and behavior change communication (SBC), risk communication, community engagement, media activities, advocacy, and research. The organization envisions nurturing empowered youth and resilient communities that contribute to sustainable health and development across the African continent. Vision: To nurture empowered young populations and resilient communities that actively contribute to sustainable health and development. Mission: To provide sustainable, equitable, and innovative solutions to contemporary and emerging public health challenges among young people in Africa . Completed Projects/Activities: Teacher Dialogues on Teenage Pregnancy in Mayuge: Conducted focused group discussions with teachers to devise localized solutions for the rising cases of teenage and adolescent pregnancy, aiming to identify drivers of the issue within the district. Capacity Building of Youth on SDG 3: The Executive Director delivered lectures on mental health, HIV, and teenage pregnancy, addressing challenges and solutions. These empowerment sessions were part of nationwide events organized by the Youth SDG secretariat under the office of the Prime Minister. HIV Campaign: Collaborated with the youth-led organization Mazungumzo to facilitate dialogues on HIV in eastern Uganda. The project aimed to dispel myths, provide health information, and address obstacles related to HIV prevention and control. Understanding Ebola: Raised public awareness about Ebola viral disease through community engagement and media initiatives, covering aspects such as transmission, symptoms, risk factors, and prevention. 1. KAWO Project: Conducted research on gender-related health challenges faced by women and girls. Activities included community dialogues with local leaders, data collection through questionnaires and interviews, and dissemination of findings to stakeholders and policymakers. Current Projects Saving Lives and Livelihoods - AUBINGWA Initiative: PHCA is actively supporting the Africa Union/Africa CDC Bingwa initiative (AUBINGWA), focused on promoting Covid-19 vaccination among young people. The initiative emphasizes awareness, demand creation, and addressing vaccine hesitancy, with the overarching goal of achieving 70% vaccination coverage among eligible populations across African countries. StuHealth: In collaboration with the Uganda National Students Association (UNSA), PHCA is developing the StuHealth project, aiming to enhance health education among young people. The project will cover multiple disease thematic areas, including cervical cancer, sexual and reproductive health, mental health, sanitation and hygiene, and HIV/AIDS. Health Education for People with Disabilities: PHCA is collaborating with the Communication for Development Foundation Uganda to launch a health education campaign focused on mental health, HIV/AIDS, and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for people with disabilities, particularly targeting young individuals.
