The AU Youth Division in collaboration with Unicef and GenU hosted a Training of Facilitators on Strategy Design for Volunteer Mobilization between 28th September – 1st October 2020.
The training aimed at equipping African Union Youth Volunteers (AUYV) with skills needed to strengthen volunteers across the continent. These skills would enable the volunteers to run strategy design processes that fit their local context. They would also be able to facilitate the development of context-specific volunteer initiatives that are locally-driven, volunteer-led and sustained through and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
This workshop used a “learning by doing” approach where participants engaged in the full design sprint process - including defining, sensing, ideation, testing, and planning - and then reflect on their experience, discussed facilitation techniques, and planned for the application of the design methodology in their context.
The 29 participants who completed the workshop received a package of adaptable facilitation tools as well as a certificate in strategy design for volunteer mobilization. Through this workshop, the participants have also gained the skills to master facilitation of workshops and seminars for other professional contexts.
