About This Opportunity
and co-funded by the European Union in partnership with the African Union, the initiative supports meaningful youth engagement and partnerships with decision-makers, including governments, CSOs, and corporations
The primary objectives of this consultancy are as follows:
✓ Produce a compelling main documentary (recommended length: 3–15
minutes) that centres youth narratives of change, influence, and resilience
across the intervention countries.
✓ Deliver edits optimized for website viewing and social‑media cutdowns.
✓ Highlight the contributions and measurable impact of young people at
events.
✓ Compile and communicate lessons learned and best practices for replication
and scaling.
✓ To ensure that all the content/segments filmed are of high quality and
authenticity.
Requirements
✓ Must be 18-35 years old at the time of beginning the assignment.
✓ Proven track in filming human impact/project impact stories/documentaries,
and outdoor events/activities with a focus on youth-centered content.
✓ Proficiency in camera operation, sound capture, and editing.
✓ Must have all the necessary tools and equipment to carry out the
assignment.
✓ Should be able to provide technical support, including guidance on
storytelling techniques, narrative structure, and effective approaches to
convey the stories.
✓ Availability to travel.
✓ Familiarity with the AU-EU Youth Voices Lab programme or similar youth
engagement initiatives is an added advantage.
✓ Excellent communication skills and the ability to incorporate feedback
effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Pre‑Production:
✓ Should be able to review and make recommendations on the storyline of each assigned activity/event.
✓ Produce storyboards, detailed shot lists, and interview guides that include segments specifically focused on the intended goals of the lab.
✓ Integrate safeguarding and ethical filming considerations from the outset.
● Production:
✓ Films indoors, outdoors, and in busy environments that showcase youth contributions and activity outputs and outcomes.
✓ Capture contextual footage and event interactions.
✓ Record short testimonials and direct calls‑to‑action from young people for social media.
✓ Short cut-downs for outreach.
✓ Event highlight edits and documentary trailers.
● Post‑Production
✓ Deliver an edited main documentary (3-15 minutes as agreed) plus 15–60 second social cutdowns and event highlight reels for each event covered.
✓ Provide narration (where required), subtitles, transcripts, and translation where applicable in English or French.
Validation and Handover:
✓ Facilitate rounds of review with Restless Development, the
Consortium, and the Youth Advisory Board.
✓ All deliverables listed under Production must go through the
validation and handover process.
Safeguarding and ethical filming:
✓ Protect the dignity, privacy, and safety of participants.
✓ Obtain informed consent from all participants.
✓ Avoid exploitative imagery and respect cultural sensitivities.
✓ Filmmakers must declare any planned use of AI tools and theirpurposes.
✓ AI may assist, but core creative authorship must be human.
✓ Follow data-protection and confidentiality best practices.
At all times, abide by Restless safeguarding policy.
DELIVERABLES
The consultant will be expected to deliver the following:
1. A detailed workplan and production schedule co-created withRestless Development.
2. Raw footage and project files.
3. Draft main documentary and social edits for review.
4. Final main documentary and all social edits.
5. Transcripts and subtitles
