Call for Applications: African Epidemic Service by Africa CDC

✓ Africa CDC has developed a continental African Epidemic Service (AES), an elite workforce hosted and directed by the African Union. The African Epidemic Service has three tracks namely, Epidemiology, Laboratory Leadership and Public health informatics. The African Epidemic Service – Epidemiology track is a two-year competency based applied epidemiology training program that aims to strengthen the disease prevention and response capacity of African Union member states. The first cohort of the AES – Epidemiology track commenced their training on Aug 2024 and they are currently undergoing their field training
in their respective host sites. The program is now accepting application for the Second cohort of the African Epidemic Service – Epidemiology track.

Applicants for the Fellowship must:
✓. be citizens of an African Union Member State;
✓. Be a youth as defined by theAfrican Union, i.e., an individualunder the age of 35.
✓. have been employed at thetime of application in an African country with permission from a government institution to attend the two years training, with rightto return post training;
✓. have a graduate degree from an accredited school of human medicine, veterinary medicine,
or other doctoral-level training in nursing, environmental sciences, or other public health field;
✓. possess an MPH or equivalent degree with coursework in epidemiology or quantitativeresearch methods; and
✓. have at least three years of recent full-time public health post graduate experience in an Africancountry;
✓. Have a functional knowledge of the any of the African Union working languages and ability to read and write technical medical and epidemiological texts.

✓. A national passport from an African Union Member State.
✓. An official letter of support with permission from a government institution to attend the two-year training programme with the right to return post training.
✓. Letters of recommendation from two reputable professionalreferees.
✓. An official degree and student copy transcripts of your bachelor’sdegree. (The official transcript will be requested from your university upon acceptance to this program.)
✓. An official degree and student copy transcripts of your master’s degree. (The official transcript will
be requested from your university upon acceptance to this program.)
✓. Evidence of recent full-time public health post graduate experience in an African Country.
✓. Brief curriculum vitae (2 pages maximum).
✓. Motivation statement (2 pages maximum), outlining your formal education, work experience and
why this program would be a good fit, and further outlining how this training will impact your country.
✓. Optional: Evidence of additional relevant qualifications.

✓ Learn more about the work of the ACHPR and how to engage strategically with the Commission and its mechanisms (State periodic review, Special Rapporteurs, communications, country visits etc.).
✓ Strengthen their practical knowledge in advocacy with the ACHPR through case studies.
✓ Meet and learn from defenders from all around Africa working on a range of human rights issues through the NGO Forum.
✓ Advocate on their issue toward a wide range of policy-makers, decision-makers and other stakeholders.
